Night Vision vs Thermal Scopes

1. Night Vision Devices for Hunting

Night vision scope is a very crucial thing nowadays. Once upon a time when it was just beyond the thought that you would go out for hunting at night time.

If you go, it will be highly risky as you have to go to the animals close to see it clearly. But, a night vision scope has changed everything. This scope is quite expensive as it has high-quality optics and is enriched with great magnification power. So, you will get a crystal clear visual presentation of the target area.

These optics are great with effective eye-relief. So, people who use glasses won’t feel uncomfortable using the scope at night time.

Well, night vision scope is a vastly used tool nowadays. Almost every professional hunter has a night vision scope.

People use this scope for getting extreme clarity along with the accessibility seen at a wide range. Through your goggles or bare eyes, you won’t be able to see things from a few feet away. But, you can see things from a great distance only using this effective tool.

Limiting Factors

Though night vision is a very helpful and effective tool, it has some limitations that may create problems.

The most crucial problem is that this scope is not good for use in foggy and rainy weather. The optic of the scope can be blurry when you rely on this scope on a foggy night or rainy weather.

There is another limitation of this scope. This scope requires a minimum light to see the targeted area. As everyone expects, you won’t get the view if there is no light at all.

2. Thermal Optics for Hunting

The thermal scope is the latest version of the night vision scope. In fact, this is something ultra latest that takes the hunting to another level.

The thermal scope is a device that will provide an image of the target area with multi-colour separations. Now, let’s know what the thermal scope is. The thermal scope is a kind of scope that provides a visual presentation of the existence of life-based on infrared light or radiation.

We know that every material of the earth receives infrared radiation, whether it is an organ or not. It receives infrared radiation in front of the heat signature. Here, the thermal scope acts like the heat signature that shows the image of infrared radiation.

This total process comes as an image of different light where the organic parts show the bright lights such as bright yellow, orange, etc. The non-organic stuff is seen as a darkish colour in the image. This colour-coding system is very reliable and it won’t deceive you at all.

Why Use Thermal Optics for Hunting?

You may already know what is thermal scope. Well, the night vision scope is quite useful to see at night. But, there are some crucial drawbacks, as we mentioned before.

Now, the thermal scope is something that will allow it to perform at night time with more versatility. With the help of the thermal scope, you can easily see the distant place and also realize if there are any signs of life or not. In this way, you can get to know from a distant place whether you are heading in the right direction or not.

The thermal scope is good for visualizing the sight but not for zeroing the focus. To get rid of this problem, you need to use a boresight that will help you a lot to zero the mount.

There is another major issue. Through the thermal scope, you can identify the existence of life. But, it is very tough to get accurate target identification. You might make a mistake in shooting the right one. Maybe you are there for hitting the wolf or deer. But, if you shoot the gun at a domestic dog, what will happen?

So, be careful in using this scope and take enough time to identify your actual target.
